KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (2024) Theatrical Review

Image
I dug the new KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. It happily dodged my expectations and gave us a more restrained and thoughtful new entry in the series, and I hope it does well enough to allow this new exploration of the ideas of the original films to continue. Full review here:

NARC (2002) Arrow Video 4K+Blu-ray Review

Image
Arrow Video brings Joe Carnahan's NARC (2002) to 4K and Blu-ray, a gritty cop drama that must have had a sizable lozenge budget for co-star Ray Liotta. Solid, grim crime thriller with Jason Patric as an undercover narc who teams up with senior loose cannon officer Liotta to root out the killer of a fellow deep cover cop. THE WOLF HOUSE (2018) KimStim Blu-ray Review

Image
KimStim brings to Blu-ray the amazing (and amazingly creepy) animated fable THE WOLF HOUSE (2018), a tale of a girl, cast out of her islolated community, who seeks refuge from a wolf in the woods in a small house, and raises pigs into children. And then it gets weird. Hypnotic and disturbing, a great one to watch alone with the lights out. Image
Radiance Films brings Luigi Comencini's whimsical and moving Italian drama MISUNDERSTOOD (1966) to Blu-ray, in a beautiful transfer with solid extras, the story of a father and two boys dealing with the sudden loss of his wife and their mother. THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE (2024) Theatrical Review

Image
More theatrical catch-up: THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE Guy Ritchie's spiritual sequel to INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, a rollicking and violent WWII men on a mission jaunt, with a fun ensemble just killing a tremendous number of Nazis in a remote African outpost. Big-screen throwback adventure, far better than the trailer would suggest. I want a sequel! Likely not long for theaters at this point, so go see it biggie-sized! THE FALL GUY (2024) Theatrical Review

Image
I loooved THE FALL GUY. Much better than the trailers would lead you to belive, an action-packed and laugh-out-loud romantic comedy set in the behind-the-scenes world of bloated Hollywood blockbusters, poking fun from within and actually letting you see what's going on during the action scenes, so you can appreciate the amazing stuntwork. Put thoughts of the old show out of your mind, as this has only passing connections, though fans of the series should be sure to stay to the very end of the credits for a very special PS. Kudos to director David Leitch for crafting a slam-bang and respectful ode to Hollywood stunt performers, and inviting us along for the ride. Can't wait to see it again. Abandoned by the living, that is.... Solid creeper with great practical FX. Get your copy now from Amazon at: https://amzn.to/49MjwH4 (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.)
