Image
Cauldron Films ' recent 4K UHD + Blu-ray release of Lucio Fulci's CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD (aka THE GATES OF HELL - 1980) presents the film looking better than ever, with a ton of extras and some fun Easter Eggs. One of the grossest scenes in cinematic history...now sharper than ever! Get your copy now from Amazon at: https://amzn.to/43lSZPk (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.) YODHA (2024) Review

Image
Currently in theaters from Funimation comes YODHA, an Indian action film in the style of PASSENGER 57, with an elite air commando (Sidharth Malhotra) attempting to stop a commercial airline hijack while his wife (Raashi Khanna), a government official with her own set of problems on the ground, attempts to aid him from afar. Top-notch action and hand-to-hand fisticuffs, and never a dull moment during its 130-minute runtime. Full review here:

MURPHY'S WAR (1971) Arrow Video Blu-ray Review

Image
Peter O'Toole stars in Peter Yates' gritty, grumpy and great WWII action thriller MURPHY'S WAR (1971), in which a wounded survivor of a German U-Boat ambush of a British vessel off the coast of Venezuela decides to wage one-man war on the submarine with only a downed biplane and a fire in his belly. O'Toole is a magnetic mix of mischievous and malevolent, and the action is fantastic in this crisply-transferred new Arrow Video release with insightful extras. PUNTO ROJO (2021) MVD Blu-ray Review

Image
MVD Entertainment Group releases on Blu-ray and DVD the Argentinean Tarantinoesque crime thriller/comedy PUNTO ROJO on 3/12. A nonlinear look at three characters in conflict in the middle of nowhere, done with style and a wink. THE IRON-FISTED MONK (1977) Arrow Video Blu-ray Review

WITCHTRAP (1989) MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray Review

Image
This motion picture is not a sequel to WITCHBOARD! The MVD Rewind Collection brings a slightly slimmed-down version of Vinegar Syndrome's Blu-ray release of WITCHTRAP (1989), a supernatural horror hoot featuring Linnea Quigley in a small role as part of a team of paranormal researchers and a dubious security team who venture to house of horrors to suss out the sinister former (deceased) owner's potential sinister squatting, from director Kevin Tenney (writer and director of WITCHBOARD, which this film is NOT a sequel to). A horrifying hoot (intentional and otherwise), with fun practical FX, a solid transfer and interesting extras, ported over from the earlier release, with the throwback MVD Rewind Collection art style and mini-poster. CUTTING CLASS (1989) MVD Rewind Collection 4K UHD / Blu-ray Review

Image
Brad Pitt in a slasher movie?? You bet your syllabus! Pitt co-stars with Jill Schoelen and Donovan Leitch in CUTTING CLASS (1989), a horror-comedy set in a High School where the student bodies pile up. Now on 4K UHD + Blu-ray from the MVD Rewind Collection , in a transfer and extras (some, not all) ported over from the out of print Vinegar Syndrome release, with cool retro packaging and a mini-poster that looks like an old CED. IMPULSE (1974) Grindhouse Releasing 2-Disc Blu-ray Review

Image
On 3/12/24, Grindhouse Releasing lets loose the unhinged William Grefe' Drive-In thriller IMPULSE (1974), starring William Shatner as a groovily-clad lothario on the make, with murderous tendencies. Nice transfer, and LOADED with extras (and Easter Eggs!), covering the making of the film, Shatner's post-STAR TREK career, Grefe's career, TWO bonus Grefe films (THE DEVIL'S SISTERS and THE GODMOTHERS, which needs to be seen to be believed), and more than a dozen hours of interviews, commentaries, and deep dives into the nuts and bolts of independent filmmaking. An essential supplement to Arrow Video's HE CAME FROM THE SWAMP set, filling in a lot of gaps and giving you all the Grefe you can handle.
